Seabass
Your DJ toolbox
Confidently move between Pioneer and Denon DJ ecosystems. Seabass works on the library that is already on your USB stick, keeping the Rekordbox and Engine DJ copies of it in step.
Seabass provides the tools that others forgot to hand to you.
What it does
Backups
Whole sticks, and the metadata on them, backed up to this computer and restorable onto any drive. Every write Seabass makes backs up first.
Metadata sync
Hot cues, memory cues and loops reconciled between Rekordbox and Engine, so a cue you set on one side shows up on the other.
Explore your library
Every catalog on the stick: tracks, playlists, key and BPM, and playback with a real waveform so you can see where a cue actually lands.
Housekeeping
Deduplication, consistency checks between the catalogs, and reclaiming the space that deleted tracks left behind.
Performance & health checks
Measures the stick the way a player reads it, per player generation, and offers tools to fix USB stick corruption.
Free Software
No ads, no subscriptions, nothing phoning home (unless you tell it to!), no strings attached. GPL-licensed, and the source is right there.
Why it exists
I created Seabass to make it easier to switch between Denon and Pioneer hardware. A DJ's library (usually on a USB stick) is their most precious asset, and we need better tools to maintain it, fix it and to make sure we don't lose it.
Seabass empowers you, it doesn't baby you. It gives you powerful tools and it is designed to work transparently. While its tools allow you to also shoot yourself in the foot, it does its best to guide you in avoiding it, and if things go south, it allows you to get your precious data back.
Finally, I think quality software should be available to everyone. Therefore I made Seabass Free Software. No spying, nothing phoning home (unless you tell it to!), no ads, just a modest encouragement to support its development. Whatever you may be able to spare. Seabass source code is published under the KDE umbrella for you to look at, to share it and to modify it.
Who am I?
I am a hobby DJ (melodic and minimal techno up to peak-time plus a bit of progressive house) performing as Whaleshark and I have been a professional software developer for most of my life. I live in Nijmegen in the Netherlands.
Whenever I'm not on the decks (or the laptop), I enjoy scuba diving, cooking and gardening. I work as a software architect teaching robots how to dance. Seabass is purely a hobby project for me and is in no way representing anyone else but me and friends of mine that support it.
